I'm officially on Season Four of Smallville. Luckily the episodes have gotten considerably better than the first season. Don't get me wrong, they aren't Emmy winning by any means, but they are a lot more interesting. I would dare to say that I'm actually enjoying it. That is when I'm not yelling at Kristin Kreuk to play another action*.
They're finally getting more into the Superman mythology. We've seen Lois (on a pretty regular basis) and even heard of Jimmy Olsen (apparently Chloe had a little fling with him while she was in Metropolis at an intern program with the Daily Planet). Clark hasn't fully embraced his ability to fly (though he has on a few rare occasions) or his cold breath thingy, but his other abilities have been revealed: strenth, superspeed, super hearing, and x-ray vision.
The writing is still pretty weak. Though again, it's gotten better. The finale for Season Three was pretty darn good and really left me wanting more. The characters can be pretty weak. Particularly Chloe, who I want to hit most of the time because she won't stop whining. Clark is loveable and charming and chock-full of typical WB/CW teenage angst. He sure is pretty though. My friend Lauren was quite insightful on Tom Welling's audition:
"They probably didn't even have him read anything. They [the auditors] were probably like 'take your shirt off, turn around,' and he got the part."Lex's character is easily the most interesting. Mostly because you're just sitting on the edge waiting for him to turn evil. He's very mulit-dimesional and the actor Michael Rosenbaum does a decent job at playing that. Oddly enough, he's strangely attractive to me... Guess it's that bad boy thing (I'm so gonna marry a "Clark" though...).
And I'm still hooked. There have been some really, really awkwardly funny moments that have left me giggling and on some occasions screaming-- which Katy, the girl I'm living with, can attest to.
Contrary to popular belief, I WILL NOT start watching Charmed(that's for my stepdad and Jeremy). I have NOT abandoned Batman (my favorite Superhero). And I will not start wearing Superman shirts. That's really geeky.
Speaking of geeks. I have gotten hit on at Hollywood video by this little Hobbit of a high schooler on several occasions. I guess he thinks I'm a well dressed dork (I usually go by there on a Sunday afternoon after church). Last Sunday he was making awkward small talk about 24 and I told him that I had heard it was a pretty good show. After which he said "Curses! I thought I was above the spectre of television!"
What!?
*Footnote: Playing action is a theatre term for active acting as opposed to playing emotions. All Kristin does is play emotion. And it usually is some form of tortured teenage sadness. Ugh. So I yell at her to play an action.
