Roller Woman!

So today, I bought a pair of rollerblades. They are kinda cheap (and by kinda I mean, I bought them for 14.97 at Walmart), but definitely serve the purpose. And the purpose is to have fun!

I was inspired by Jules who rollerblades everywhere. She always sounds like they're a blast and she even rollerblades to her Phantom of the Opera shows, so if she can do it, so can I! I mean I can't rollerblade to MY job, but I could definitely rollerblade to the QT or take them to a park or the botanical gardens. All of which sound WAY fun!

I used to LOVE to rollerblade when I was little. I remember when I got my first pair for Christmas when I was like 8. I was a rollerblading maniac. I would get my walkman and either pop in my Phantom of the Opera tape (no lie, Jules) or my Acapella Platinum tape and make up little rollerblading dance moves in my driveway. And when it was cold out, I would pretend I was an ice skater. I even attempted a few jumps and leaps and spins and stuff. I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I fell. I had no fear of hurting myself as a child (which is probably why I was a gymnast).

So right after I bought them, I grabbed my ipod, my gloves, and my ear warmers and new rollerblades and headed outdoors. Of course I bought them at like 8:30pm so it was already really dark and pretty cold out. Was I at all concerned by the darkness or the cold? Nope. I bundled up, snapped the skates on and out I went.

It was exhilarating! As great as it was when I was 8! At one point I was skating down a hill and I realized that if I fell, I would bust my head open because I wasn't wearing a helmet. Who cared!? I was as carefree as I used to be. No fear! I even got a crazy idea in my head to see if I could still do my back-handspring when I got back to my apartment (without the rollerblades on of course).

I skated for about 20 minutes before I realized that it was WAY too cold to be attempting this. My lungs were constricting and my face was numb and I was beginning to realize it probably wasn't the safest thing for a 24 year old girl to be skating around her apartment complex with her ipod in her ears at 9pm in the evening. So I reluctantly skated home...

You're right, Lauren, not at good idea, albeit an inspirational one. I'm 55 and I want to go skating now! Only when I was eight we had four wheels in a rectangle under each foot!

I wanted to let you know about a wonderful product being sold by a teen entrepreneur - bandless ear warmers. I absolutely love them because they don't mess up my hair and they can be used with your iPod, cell phone etc. AND they are actually so comfortable that I often forget I have them on.

Check it out at MittsForYourEars.com

I'm going to wait until spring for the skating, but I'll be thinking of you racing circles around me!

I can always count on you to "get" it, Lauren! And your examples make me realize how good I got it!

We should write a book together... I'm sure we could come up with a catchy title...
